Fire Installation Opens

Karl has been working with John Marshall from the School of Art and Design on an interactive public art project. The project was funded by Arts on Earth. Werner Dahm from the propulsion lab acted as an advisor to John and Karl. The piece is made with 22 autonomous interactive units controlled by 17 IR sensors. 2 additional IR sensors control two sound elements. As people move under the installation the cells illumination changes in intensity and duration.

PLY lectured at the Centro de Arquitectura y Diseno in Rosario. The lecture was translated by Juan Manuel Rois.

PLY Receives 2 State of Michigan AIA Awards

PLY received two honor awards from the Michigan AIA. The first honor award is for Big Ten Burrito in the small project category. The second award is for the Mies van der Rohe Plaza at Lafayette Park in Detroit. The project was designed in collaboration with PEG Office of Landscape and Architetcure. Tiseo Architects renovated the existing shops and were the architects of record for the overall project.

PLY shortlisted in Lafayette Park Design Competition

PLY in collaboration with Karen M'Closkey, has been shortlisted for the design of an urban plaza space in the Lafayette Park and Housing Area of Detroit. Lafayette Park was originally designed by Mies van der Rohe and Ludwig Hilberseimer in the mid 1950's. The invited competition, sponsored by a local developer, completes a renovation to the retail area.

PLY wins HOUSE: Case Study Cleveland
June 13, 2002

PLY is proud to announce that its proposal has been selected as the winning entry to House: Case Study Cleveland. The national design competition and exhibit held at SPACES Gallery reexamined the goals of the Case Study House Program for a Midwestern, post-industrial city. Ten teams were invited to present their vision for the future of affordable single family housing in America. The project will begin construction in Cleveland in the spring of 2003.

Borum + Daubmann receive ACSA Faculty Design Award
April 2002

Borum and Daubmann, with their collaborators Hyde and Roddier, were awarded an American Collegiate Schools of Architecture Faculty Design Award for their Chicago Public Schools Proposal. The project was exhibited at the National Conference in New Orleans, LA.

 

PLY receives BSA Unbuilt Architecture Award
November 13, 2001

PLY is proud to announce that its design for a prototype church for the Midwest has won a BSA (Boston Society of Architects) Unbuilt Architecture Design Award. The juried international competition recognizes work that “to date remains unbuilt.”

The project will be exhibited at the Build Boston Convention Nov. 13 - 15, 2001 and at The Architects Building in Boston. It will also be published in the January 2002 issue of ArchitectureBoston.
